ring ring. Who’s there? ISY994 + ring!
ISY994 + ring, who?
ISY994 + ring = Awesome!
You\’ve been using ring for a while, and although it makes remote doorbelling rather easy, but you have been having a nagging feeling that something was missing. Well, of course! It was missing ISY994 till just a few moments ago. And, now, you can use your ring\’s ding and motion events in your ISY994 programs and ISY994 can control your ring\’s floodlights.
Of course, with everything ISY, the possibilities are limitless.
Prerequisites:
- You need firmware version 5.0.15 or higher
- You need an ISY Portal account

It was awesome until I read the fine print. The Ring node server is supported only on Polyglot Cloud and one must provide their Ring account credentials to the node server. This seems extremely risky particularly for people with Ring security systems.
Extremely disappointed.

ajm1421,
I am so sorry to hear that you are extremely disappointed. I sincerely hope that you share your extreme disappointment with ring as a) their API requires a predefined end point with valid certificate in the cloud (i.e. it took us over a month just to get approved for our URL) and b) it requires the credentials. Please keep us posted with whatever you may get back from ring.
For others, the whole database for PGC is encrypted using rolling encryption keys that, themselves, are encrypted.
With kind regards,
Michel

Will integration with Ring alarm system and ring cameras also be possible?

Not with this iteration because there are no APIs. We have submitted enhancement requests to ring. We’ll see what happens.

There is no RING HELLO, it’s NEST HELLO. Ring’s products are completely different.

Hi, is there any documentation for setting this up? I was able to add the ring node server and authenticate it in Polyglot. My ring devices were then added and show up in my ISY console. However, when I try to activate my floodlight, I get an error saying “TCP client request failed [ISY:503]”. I can’t seem to find any information on this.
Thanks

Does it need to integrate through the node server – is it possible to control the RING Zwave directly?
Universal Devices
September 27, 2019 @ 1:33 pm
Hi Christian, except for their Z-Wave devices, Ring is not Z-Wave enabled.

I don’t have Ring doorbell or cameras at the moment and I would certainly find this useful when I add those. I do however have Ring security and agree with the observation that Ring is a closed system despite using open protocols. For example Ring security does not really work with third party sensors (you can add and detect status, but can’t do much).
Michel: If we were to push for an API that also includes support for RIng security products, what would we want? As you stated, we can try and push Ring (an Amazon company now) via their support channels, however nothing may happen:-)

I’m missing something. Ring node server installed and the nodes show-up in the ISY. I can control the flood light but cannot detect the door bell ring/ motion or the floodlight motion. For the front door ring I see battery life and at the bottom a button for ding and Query, Do I need to set these up using IFTTT? Plan to try this next.
Thanks

Jayadev,
Ring security system uses Z-Wave. So, not sure what you are looking for!

Hi Eric,
This issue is mostly related to the account you are using. You must use the main account and NOT a shared account.
With kind regards,
Michel

Michel,
Not clear which account is shared. For ISY portal and ISY only one account exists, the main account or admin user. Same for ring account. Did get the IFTTT to work to flag a variable in ISY for these activities of bell ring and motion. Standard Polyglot working fine.
I see the log for the polyglot-Cloud cycling the same code every minute. Is this normal?
Is this the best forum for these questions? Saved the log after a restart for the ring polyglot cloud.
Thanks,
Eric Barish

Hi Eric,
Shared Ring account with someone else. You must use your Ring’s main account to link to ISY Portal. If not, although you may be able to control the flood lights but you won’t get any events back in the ISY.

Mike, please submit a ticket. If you see it in the ISY, you should see it in the programs.

I have a ring mailbox sensor. It doesn’t appear to be on this list of supported devices. Any idea of if/when that might be added?

Chris, Ring has not yet published the APIs for the mailbox sensor.
